Nous raises $17m as Monzo co-founder Tom Blomfield backs its household AI agent

London-based Nous has raised $17m (about £12.7m) in new funding, with Monzo co-founder Tom Blomfield, Founders Forum's Brent Hoberman and the founders of Faculty, Onfido and Funding Circle on the cap table. The round takes the company's disclosed funding to roughly $27m.

Nous was founded in 2021 by Greg Marsh, who built the accommodation marketplace onefinestay and sold it to Accor in 2016 in a deal reported at more than $200m. Marsh started out as an investor at Index Ventures.

The company began as a household finance dashboard for the cost-of-living squeeze. It now sells itself as a household AI agent. The service handles energy, broadband, mobile and insurance switching, cancels unwanted subscriptions, books repairs and chases refunds, and talks to users through WhatsApp.

    The deal

The $17m was first reported by Sifted on 26 October. The lead investor, round stage and valuation were not disclosed.

The backers named so far are almost all founders. Blomfield co-founded GoCardless and Monzo. Hoberman co-founded lastminute.com and chairs Founders Forum. The round also drew in the founders of AI consultancy Faculty, identity verification company Onfido and SME lender Funding Circle.

Many of those names already backed Nous. Its $9m (£6.5m) seed round in February 2022 was led by Mosaic Ventures and brought in more than 65 angels, among them Blomfield, Faculty chief executive Marc Warner, Onfido co-founder Eamon Jubbawy and Hoberman. By mid-2023 the company had raised $10m in total seed funding. The new round adds $17m to that figure, and the returning angels suggest existing holders are putting in more money rather than handing the round to a new institutional lead.

    The business

Nous says more than 250,000 households use the service, and that it typically identifies £734 of savings per household. The basic tier is free. Premium costs £6.99 per household per month and adds unlimited managed services, subscription tracking, cash rewards and round-the-clock support.

The company says it does not earn money from advertising or from selling data, and it is a certified B Corp. That sets it apart from the commission-led comparison sites that have long dominated UK household switching. It also means its revenue rests on persuading free users to pay.

    What's next

Use of funds was not disclosed. The raise comes as investors pour money into AI agents, although most of the largest cheques have gone to enterprise tooling rather than consumer products. Nous is betting that households will hand a single agent standing permission to act on their bills, inboxes and calendars.

The next numbers to watch are conversion from free to Premium and the cost of serving each household. Those will decide whether the founder-heavy cap table brings in an institutional lead at its next round.
