Sovereign AI Fund backs Augur as the ex-Palantir-founded security startup gains access to Isambard-AI

The government's £500m Sovereign AI Fund has invested in London national security startup Augur, a company already used by Transport for London, months after it raised a $15m seed round led by Plural.

Augur builds software that pulls fragmented networks of existing sensors, including CCTV, into a single real-time intelligence layer for national security and public safety teams. Traditional CCTV systems record footage for later review. Augur's aim is to flag risks while they are still developing, including in crowd monitoring.

Two of the company's founders are former Palantir executives. Transport for London is among its users.

    The deal

The Sovereign AI Fund did not disclose the size of its cheque or the valuation. The fund typically writes cheques of £5m to £10m, mostly at seed and Series A, and can either lead or follow on in a round.

Alongside the capital, Augur gets access to Isambard-AI, the UK's most powerful AI supercomputer. The company will use it to train models on large, complex multi-camera datasets. That kind of compute is a significant cost for an early-stage business, so access to state infrastructure adds value beyond the equity cheque.

The investment comes after Augur's $15m seed round earlier this year, which was led by Plural. Plural therefore remains the lead institutional investor on Augur's cap table, with the government now holding a stake through the fund.

    The fund's strategy

The fund said Britain needs this capability and should own it, and that security technology should be built in the UK by a team that has shown better security and privacy can go together.

The fund invests across AI model development, AI drug discovery and agentic AI. Its earlier holdings include AI infrastructure startup Callosum, where it wrote its first cheque in a $100m seed led by Atomico, as well as chip designer Olix and Isomorphic Labs.

Augur is one of the fund's first investments in national security and public safety. It shows the state using its balance sheet in areas where it is also a likely customer.

    What's next

With fresh capital and supercomputer time, Augur is positioned to extend its multi-camera models and win more contracts with public bodies and critical infrastructure operators. Having a government investor on the register could help with procurement in a sector where sovereignty and data handling often decide contracts.

The deal also adds to the Sovereign AI Fund's track record ahead of wider scrutiny of how the £500m is deployed. Founders will watch whether its cheques continue to follow rounds led by private investors, or whether it begins taking lead positions more often.
